I think that was mostly a general comment, as I didn't understand "roles earlier in the document", and I might have misunderstood "validation of used roles" as something the authors would have to do. Yours, Steffen

Also relevant, I just had my contribution to add first-class CRediT support to pandoc in jgm/pandoc#10153, this means that you can also generate JATS that has this information (it also gives an implicit data model you can follow for your document metadata)

@cthoyt, i would love to have JATS for BioHackrXiv. Right now, people submit a PDF and not the Markdown. But I hope that that will change.
