The archivist scans the gobbler registry and moves non-internal files into a backup directory. The idea is that the backup is some FUSE-mounted location that provides cheap cold storage, ideally with some caching layer for recently-accessed files. Each file in the registry that is moved into the backup is replaced by a symlink to the backup.
