Questions about SBS mode and underlying SDK

Hi,

first off, thanks for the great piece of software. I have installed Breezy Desktop and it works quite well. I am still figuring out how to use my glasses effectively. Ideally, I would want to use them for productivity workloads and also for 3d gaming and seamlessly switch between these two. Thus, I do have a couple of questions that I hope you could answer.

1. Is it possible to switch to the SBS mode in Breezy Desktop? As I understand it, Breezy Vulkan allows setting the SBS mode for a virtual display via the xr_driver_cli tool. In a video you also showed a toggle for enabling 3D content in this mode on the steam deck. Can this also be used in Breezy Desktop to easier allow for 3D content viewing without having to change the display modes of the glasses again?
2. How can I select the display mode of the glasses? There is a toggle in Breezy Desktop whether to use the maximum refresh rate, but I would like to set the mode directly. I have a pair of Rokid Max glasses, that allow for a 120 Hz SBS mode. This mode can be set by sending a command to the glasses, either via the official SDK or with this tool: https://github.com/badicsalex/ar-drivers-rs. Sadly, ar-drivers-rs does no longer work once the XRLinuxDriver is installed. Is it already possible to set the display mode via the XRLinuDriver?
3. Instead of relying on the official sdk, would it possible to also use ar-drivers-rs as a backend for the XRLinuxDriver? This would allow me to also use Breezy Desktop on my arm64 device. For this platform there is no sdk available from Rokid.

I'm glad you're enjoying Breezy. Here are my answers:

1. No. I used to support SBS for Breezy GNOME so I could use it for widescreen. But after I added support for launching any number of virtual displays I dropped SBS mode as it caused headaches and is simpler to leave out. But even with that, I didn't support rendering 3D content within that view, as that raises a ton more challenges.
2. To manually manage the display mode, you would want to disable the advanced settings you pointed out (there's one for refresh rate, and one for "optimal settings" which will adjust the resolution and scaling; disable either or both of these depending on which settings you want to modify). After that you'll want to log out and back in for the settings to take effect. Then you can manage all your display settings manually from the GNOME Displays application -- specifically resolution, refresh rate, and scaling. You don't need to install Rokid-specific software for this as it's just a monitor to GNOME and can be managed as such.
3. It's a possibility, but not likely something I would take on myself. I'm always up for taking PRs, though, if you're capable. Alternatively, the driver does support OpenTrack UDP inputs, so if there's an easy way to pipe the ar-drivers-rs output to an OpenTrack UDP stream, it should work perfectly.
