XG reset is interpreted as either GM2 or GS reset when using Yamaha VSTi

When I play a MIDI file containing an XG reset through either Yamaha X-YXG50 or S-YXG2006LE VSTi, the synthesizer is reset to something else, which I asume is either GM2 or GS since it can still use different drum kits. This becomes a problem especially with drum kits, if the MIDI file use something exclusive to XG, such as the bass drum on A1, which in GM and GS is a metronome. If I play a MIDI file without an XG reset, the synthesizer stays in XG mode as normal.
However, this behavior only happens when using the VSTi in Foobar2000 with foo_midi. If I play a MIDI file with an XG reset in a different MIDI program with the same VSTi, it resets to XG as it should.

Thank you for reporting the issue.

Do you have a small MIDI file that causes the issue? The MIDI mode selection code uses a number of rules, some of which are there from the early days. F.e. the last Mode set message wins so if a GM or GS message follows an XG then GM or GS it is.

It happens with all XG MIDIs I've tried, such as this:

The MIDI file only contains one SysEx for XG System On. When I trace the output only that SysEx is sent to the VSTi.
How can you tell the wrong drum kit is used? The render sound OK to me? Which MIDI flavor setting are you using?

When playing the MIDI in Foobar2000, the bass drum on A1 becomes a metronome, meaning that the synthesizer is not playing it as XG. When I play it in another MIDI program, it plays as a bass drum exactly as it should. As said I'm using the Yamaha S-YXG2006LE by entering the path in Foobar2000, whereafter it shows up in the list. That's all I've done.

You can use the Falcosoft MIDI player (make sure to get the 32 bit version for SYXG50). It can show the VST screen in real-time, which should help with determining if it's in GS or XG mode.
