Shiny app to create Closeread/scrollyteling webpages

Hi all,

I created a shiny app that generates scollytelling webpages (using Closeread) that I wanted to share. The app allows people with no programming (or Quarto) experience to create scrollytelling webpages. It can also help people who do know Closeread create Closeread documents faster.

The app is more of a proof of concept right now rather than polished code, so if anyone has suggestions on how to improve it, or wants to submit pull requests, that would be great.

This is so cool, @emeyers! I couldn't get the HTML to render ("An error has occurred. Check your logs or contact the app author for clarification.") but I love the idea and the execution!

Hmmm, @jimjam-slam, the app on shinyapps.io is working for me. Did you include some R code that has an error in it? When I included some R code that had an error I got the same error message that you are reporting above.

If you look at or download the Quarto document, you can test if the generated Quarto document is correct. If it is, it should render to html correctly since it is just calling quarto::render() on that file.

/facepalm The R code I put in was library(here) — I wasn't giving a thought to evaluating it 😆 I'll give it another go later in the day!

FYI, I just made it so that it is now impossible to add R code that does not run (gives a warning message if there is a mistake in the code).

Also, I made it so that one needs to press a button to see a preview of a narration (e.g., how the zooming, scaling, etc. look) which makes the preview run much more smoothly.
