Description
Indigo Theme Style for the Course Catalog MFE
Tutor Indigo currently provides theming support for the core Open edX LMS/CMS pages, but it does not apply styling to the new Course Catalog Micro-Frontend (MFE) available in the frontend-app-catalog repository.
This ticket aims to introduce the necessary changes to extend the Indigo theme (and related branding strategy) to support the Course Catalog MFE so that it aligns visually with the rest of a Tutor Indigo deployment.
This work is aligned with recent theme and branding improvements introduced in:
- tutor-indigo PR feat: Indigo updates for the Course Catalog MFE #204
- brand-openedx PR feat: Indigo updates for the Course Catalog MFE edly-io/brand-openedx#49
Why This Is Needed
- The Indigo theme does not currently apply to MFEs because MFEs use the Open edX Paragon-based branding and design token system, which is separate from traditional Indigo theming in edx-platform.
- As a result, the Course Catalog MFE does not inherit Indigo variables (colors, typography, spacing, etc.).
- The Catalog MFE delivers the primary course discovery experience. Without consistent Indigo styling, it appears visually inconsistent with the rest of a Tutor Indigo site.
- Ensuring branding consistency improves user experience, visual coherence, and overall platform professionalism.
Expected Outcome
- The Course Catalog MFE adopts Indigo brand colors, typography, and component styling.
- Shared branding assets (introduced in the related PRs) are leveraged instead of duplicating styles.
- The catalog UI visually aligns with LMS/CMS pages themed by Indigo.
