How did did it work ?
Only local LAN or can I federate with an other Instance over WAN ?

Federation just works between the webapp over TCP/IP. It is disabled on instances that have private mode (PRIVATE=1) or explicitly disable it (FEDERATION=0).

It announces instance operations to /api/instances of other known public potato-mesh instances. It does some security checks (public key, signature, correct domain/ip, active nodes in database) and stores the record.

In future, you will be able to select any federated instance from a dropdown and can jump from region to region.
