What went wrong?

saves the DDS image without the DXT5 compression, even though it was selected

It preserves the image's original format; if it's in DXT5, it will save it in that format, but if it isn't, it won't convert it to DXT5.

Hi, thanks for reporting this. I can reproduce this in GIMP itself when trying to export a single image with BC3/DXT5 compression non-interactively (i.e. using the command line instead of Export As...). I created an issue in the GIMP repository.

It appears that BC3/DXT5 is the only faulty compression format, others work fine.

In the meantime, you can fix this by adding the gimp-image-detach-parasite custom action and entering dds-import-settings in the name text field.

Yes, the bug is in GIMP—you're right , works well with GIMP 3.0.0
