Update a Hacked System

I think I am on a pretty hacked version of PW-DB from maybe the fall of 2004. Can't really tell as I am not sure where to look for version info and my files have all sorts of dates on them as I had previously patched together the system to run on a QNAP NAS that at the time really struggled with Container Station. And I needed some customization of the data and dashboard.

I am pretty sure I got around all the uniqueness but still think I probably don't have a virgin environment and I don't think I ever used Git to set it the way it is now. It works wonderfully and I have been hesitant to upgrade it. Also not sure what I might gain and am afraid I might lose a lot and also not be able to get back to where I am today.

My environment is two PW2s and a GW1 connected over ethernet on the same LAN that the Innodb and grafana sit on.

What would be the recommendation at this point?

If it's not broke, don't fix it!

I know a lot of people have a drive to be on "latest" but it is emotional, not rational. Maybe it's because we just "like new things?" Having said that, in general, upgrades are provided to introduce new features or fix bugs. They also always introduce new bugs. Always. If you don't need the new features or the current bugs are not an issue, why upgrade?

You should see a VERSION file in your copy of PW-DB as those have been there since the beginning. Use that to compare what new features or fixes have been added to see if it is worth the effort to upgrade. See https://github.com/jasonacox/Powerwall-Dashboard/releases for that list. Even if you don't have the file for whatever reason, you can read through the releases to see if there is something you find interesting.

If you do upgrade, make a complete backup of what you have. If you hit a "frustrated beyond belief" point in your upgrade, that will provide you a nice "undo" button.

I'll do that and honestly with PW2 and GW1, I am not sure if I will gain anything from what I have.

Now if you can fix Teslas api to give me what I lost. that would be a reason to upgrade.

Sadly, I think the GW1 is going to be the issue on that. If someone with a GW1 is able to get the new TEDAPI paths (or similar) working, please let us know!
