Visualizing 3D elements

I'm trying to visualize a wall with 3D elements.
However, the grid in the description_ggd works only for 2D elements.
Instead, I defined grid_subset, as they seem to take into account 3D objects, but this results in the
error vtkDataAssembly.cxx:530 ERR| vtkDataAssembly (0x9e5f4e0): Invalid name specified

I'm not sure if this is a bug in IMAS-Paraview or I defined the ids wrong.
Do you have an example of an IDS with 3D elements, so I can double-check?
I have been using: imas:hdf5?user=schwarn;pulse=100000;run=2;database=CARIDDI;version=4

reading the wall from the machine description DB works fine (although slow):

However, perhaps each element in this IDS is 2D? Is that the issue here?

When I try to load your IDS I get the error:
( 356.953s) [paraview ] base_class.py:520 ERR| Heterogeneous IDSs are currently not supported.
( 356.959s) [paraview ] ggd_base_reader.py:41 WARN| Selected invalid time step
which seems to be different from yours...

Hi @paulotex,
I think the IDS of the ITER_MD only saves the triangle surfaces because only the objects_per_dimension[2] is filled.

The heterogeneous time only works with later versions of imas-paraview.
I just stored the IDS with homogeneous time, so you should be able to open it now.
Do I maybe have to store the surfaces in addition to the cells?
Right now, I only fill the nodes and the cells (dimension 0 and 3).

@SBlokhuizen I can now reproduce the error from Nina, with the URI she provided above. Could you have a look and see if the issue is with the GGD plugin?

This seems to be caused by the issue that in this wall IDS the identifier names of the grid subsets are not filled, and we use these for providing labels to the VTK objects.

I just tried setting them as randomized and then the GGD seems to load fine:

Thanks, this now works for me, too.
When I now try to define the object as cells instead of points, I get a new error in paraview: Unkown Cell type
This is the part of the code which produces the subset

Hi Nina, there seemed to be an issue with how the 3D volume elements were being converted into VTK objects. Could you try it again with the fix proposed in #39? Note, if you are on SDCC instead of loading the IMAS-ParaView module, you will need a developer install, please take a look here on how to do so.

With this fix, I am now able to load your data:

Yes, I confirm the same issues as Nina. However, the log messages report that the missing components and space[0] are being read...
