I also noticed that in the Preview Search tab nothing is displayed under Facets

I think the two observations are related. Somehow the facet list could not be generated, causing place holders to contain empty strings.

There's a good chance that I forgot to select a facet on the first screen. Assuming that it is okay that no facet is required, the UI text would have to take it into account.
