Supporting Multidimensional Array Style Operations

I posted this idea on the polars GitHub the other day. However the idea is not particularly specific to polars, it really works with any long format/relational data manipulation library. Which makes Ibis a good choice for performing the underlying relational operations.

Wanted to use this thread as a space to discuss the merits of the idea.

Please forgive me not rewriting the content of the polars thread here as there’s quite a bit, but if it is preferable I can resubmit this thread with the content written out.
