This is hard to explain to someone who is not a go dev.
This needs to be published in most common package managers, such as brew.

I see a note about mise in the readme - seems like a little known yet another "we had 100 tools and we created a new one to replace them and now we have a 101 tools". Brew is standard, can we just stick to standard...

Brew isn't standard for all teams, unfortunately, and we want to be mindful of maintainer burden as we support different mechanisms for installing Gruntwork tools.

mise is recommended in the README.md as it's a simple, cross-platform, flexible mechanism to installing a lot of different tools (including Terragrunt and OpenTofu). It supports pinning the versions of these different tools in your codebase so that you can reliably get the same behavior across teammates and in CI. If you haven't tried it yet, give it a shot!

Brew is standard on Mac. It is not a matter of per team choice or someone's opinion. It is de facto standard regardless of if you personally like it or not, and there's data to support it. I don't know any single person in the world who is using Mac and not having brew. More than 80% of what I have installed on my machine with brew is not even available on mise. In fact - if I ever wanted to try mise, I would use brew to install mise. Do not confuse package managers (broad scope for large audiences) with dev tools version management (niche, small scope problem for devs).

You seem passionate about Homebrew! Consider maintaining your own cask, or contributing a formula to Homebrew core.

You seem to be very passionate about mise. Make it so everybody have mise installed on their system so I do not have to teach my teams how to install one more tool just to install one more tool. I can install my own tools, brew or not. I'm just a realist.

Ah, thanks for informing me about that. Do you mind linking to the relevant policy that would prevent you from making the contribution?

Also, as far as I know nobody can stop you from creating your own tap to host a cask/formula.

I think you are missing the point - how would my own tap solve the problem? Wouldn't everyone need to be aware of my tap's existence and run a command to add and trust my tap? Why would anyone trust me, who am I and what affiliation do I have to the tool that they actually want to use? How would it be different/easier from discoverability perspective to add my tap vs install mise and then install boilerplate via mise? This conversation is going nowhere.

I am not affiliated with you to argue on your behalf that boilerplate is stable, maintainable and known enough to be accepted. It is to me - but that's just my opinion. I have tried arguing that on behalf of others in the past, and I have failed, and I am not going to waste my time again. You can probably tell by now if I am really passionate about brew or not. I do have my own tap for my own projects. All of it is beyond the point.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to implement this as proposed in #279. If you'd like to see brew install boilerplate, we recommend contributing a Formula to homebrew-core.

Context

Boilerplate can currently be installed via mise + aqua or by downloading binaries directly from GitHub Releases. Adding a Homebrew formula would make installation simpler for macOS and Linux users.

What needs to happen

1. Open a PR to Homebrew/homebrew-core. Follow their contributing guide. The formula should build from source using Go — see Terragrunt's formula as a reference.

2. Draft formula — something like:
