Feature request: Kitty unicode placeholders

Is there a chance that "Kitty unicode placeholders" will be supported alongside sixel?
Because when I use the following code in a preview file, the image is displayed very slowly.
kitten icat --stdin no --transfer-mode memory --place "${w}x${h}@${x}x${y}" "$file" < /dev/null > /dev/tty

I am all for that. I am just not sure how easy it is to implement. Also, I don't know whether it's worth it looking into this before

It's all good. Joe and I are against adding new third party libraries, especially for things we could implement ourselves. There is also no need to ask other developers.
