I know how quick the two days to work on applications can go and considering the time constraint you both did really well.
Main advice:

For group projects consider using Redux. It's not as hard to learn as you might think and can make things easier than passing props everywhere (Component state still useful too). A couple hours work will save you a lot of time. Here is the link to a great React Course which includes Redux (https://www.udemy.com/course/react-2nd-edition/)

Consider using https://material-ui.com/ for ready made components. They use inline styles which I like because it makes your component more of a component as it doesn't rely on an external css file.
