Temperature calibration only affects display?

It seems like the temperature calibration setting (and probably also humidity calibration setting) only affects the data shown on the display of the device - and not the readout/measure from the device.
Is the approach then to create a derivative sensor in HA and add/subtract the offset in order to get the real value ?

If you use attribute calibration (not z2m built-in calibration) it affects both display and reporting values
