Bus signal extraction not working #1257

Description

@Seaeo

Hello,

I come to you after several exchange with CSS electronic support who promotes your SW and from who I know it.

The main description of my problem is the following: when I open an MDF raw file and try to Extract bus signal with an appropriate DBC, there is no file created (windows explorer sees an activity but with a file of 0bit)

I am using the following version of asammdf:
version 8.2.5.dev5
PySide6 6.8.2.1
CPython 3.12.9 x64

Up to know, we did the following test with the help of CSS support:
Laptop "A" (HP Probook 450 G10 Win11 25H2)

  • Laptop "A":The initial configuration is with asammdf files on windows desk and MF4/ dbc files on a folder which is synced with a NAS (with Qsync from Qnap). You can see what happen on the video here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/11hjQTeYUdK5krVLCqso4ZJlAYytpiepK/view?usp=sharing

  • Laptop "A": I was advised to try after reloading the dbc file: same problem

  • Laptop "A":After this we tried the same test on my side and on CSS support side with exactly the same files. the files are available here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1sdW_Ye6rsdgAHDmXlD0Bgt1qUGkIGGIu?usp=sharing
    The result is there is the problem on my laptop and not on CSS support side

  • Laptop "A":After a discussion concerning the file system and potential problems on synced folders, I tried with asammdf / MF4 / dbc files in c:/temp: same problem

  • Laptop "A": We tried another time with asammdf / MF4 / dbc files in MyDocs/temp: same problem

  • Laptop "B" To have another view, I tried on another laptop let's call it "B" (HP Probook 450 G5 Win11 25H2): it works

  • Precision concerning laptops differences:

    • I am admin of both laptops and I launch asammdf as admin
    • on a file system / drive / sync point of view, both laptops have the same configuration. The main difference on that point is that on Laptop A my first attempt was using the synchronised folders while on Laptop B , my first attempt was on a not synchronised folder. "I didn't tried on a synchronised folder on laptop B
    • the main differences between laptops are:
      • Age / Version:
        • HP Probook 450G10 2023 (the one with the problem)
        • HP Probook 450G5 2018 (the one on which it works)
      • SW installed: The main points that I could see a link (I am not a specialist, may it have an impact ?) are
        • Microsoft Visual Studio Code and some python libraries
        • Python 3.13.7
        • Python launcher
        • Thonny 4.1.7
        • Vector Candb++ ??
  • Laptop "A". After this, I came back on Laptop A and tried different functions saving a file on the PC:

    • I tried to save the configuration through asmmdf in the same folder (mydocument/temp) and it works.
    • I tried to export through the "Bus Logging" Tab and it doesnot work (not "Bus Extract Signals" but "export to CSV")
    • I tried to export through the "modify and export" tab and it works

I have one thing in mind: How to completely remove preferences and history from asammdf. I saw that even changing the asammdf files from one folder to another and even redownloading new files, my former openned folders or dbc database are reminded. So I guess some preferences or history are remtained. Is there a mean to completely erase folder or registry used by asammdf ?

I am know quite stuck and would really appreciate your help. Using the Laptop B is only a temporary work around for me. I am able to make some tests for you if required.

regards
