Hi, I'm having some trouble translating the text on the application firewall panels and logs (network requests and domain names) into French.
The filters use gender-neutral terms in the English past participle form (allowed, blocked).
In French, past participles in this context match the gender and number of the name or subject in the sentence. Also, common names are all grammatically gendered; the words "application" and "request" are feminine, and "domain name" is masculine.
I believe French is not the only language to use such grammatical structures.
Currently, the labels that annoy me are shared across panels and/or reused on certain pages. Consequently, depending on the context and the subject matter, matchs must be made, and for now they are all masculine plural. A choice had to be made, but this is not satisfying for the reader.
The idea would be to propose independent labels for each panel.
Some (all?) examples:
-
Home screen: "blocked" for the applications

-
App firewall: shared filters with other panels

-
Logs: shared filters with other panels (for Network, and DNS panels) + "blocked" for a domain

-
Firewall, by app (same for global), domains rules: "blocked" for 1 domain in an app

-
Firewall, by app (same for global), IP & Port rules: "blocked" for 1 query in an app

Best regards.
