Description
At the moment, the currency menu items are crawlable links. This means bots can discover them and add them to their crawl queue.
When they do crawl them, they discover near-duplicate pages with a canonical back to the base page.
These currency URLs get classified by Google as "Alternative page with proper canonical tag" and excluded from the index.
This is just wasting the bot's time and crawl budget.
Unfortunately, once discovered, Google will crawl those URLs for a long time to see if they get fixed, especially if they are still linked to.
Possible fixes to stop their discovery and crawling:
- Add a rel="nofollow" to all currency links (may help)
- Change the links into onclick events (better)
- Disallow them in the robots.txt (stops crawling)
