Real-time highlighting workaround via client-side html

I really like the add-on. However, real-time highlighting seems like is a crucial feature that's currently missing. I've seen a README part explaining the reasons.
I found this workaround to implement onEdit trigger in docs. I checked it and it works. It looks applicable in Code Blocks add-on, since there is a sidebar where html can be embedded.

Have you considered implementing real-time highlighting using this approach? If yes, what were the obstacles?
