[Bug] Loading files from GVFS SMB shares truncates them to zero bytesΒ #2660

Operating System

Linux

What's the issue you encountered?

When opening a file over a GVFS share, ImHex shows no bytes in the file. When checking in another file manager, the file is truncated to zero bytes.

(this would have lost me a ton of work if not for regular backups...)

How can the issue be reproduced?

  • Mount a Samba (SMB/CIFS) share using GVFS - on XFCE this can be done by browsing the network in Thunar (file manager)
  • Open a file from the share in ImHex (right click, open in ImHex)
  • ImHex will show that the file is empty.
  • Quit ImHex
  • Check the file in the file manager: note that it's now zero bytes

ImHex Version

1.37.1, commit v1.37.X@f112123

ImHex Build Type

  • Nightly or built from sources

Installation type

Apt install

Additional context?

Imhex version 1.37.1, commit v1.37.X@f112123 -- I think this is the version from the Mint 22.2 / Ubuntu 24.04 apt repos.
I'm running the XFCE flavour but as GVFS is a common component I'd expect this to be reproducible on Cinnamon or Gnome too.
