implementation of a JOKER-CAS (z.B. 0-0-0)

It was discussed in VDA PG-meeting to create the possibility to add a joker CAS, if no CAS-Number ist available.
We did not make a deep dive into this topic so far.
Can we discuss this and add it eventually to the subschema?

In the context of CAS Registry Numbers, there is no official "joker" or wildcard CAS number recognized by the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) or any regulatory body. CAS numbers are unique, specific identifiers for chemical substances, and there is no universal placeholder or "joker" number.

What People Sometimes Do:

• Internal Systems: Some organizations use arbitrary numbers like 000-00-0, 999-99-9, or 123-45-6 as placeholders in internal databases when a CAS number is unknown or not applicable. However, these are not standardized and should never be used in official documentation or submissions.
• Software Searches: In some chemical databases or software, you can use wildcards (e.g., *, ?) to search for partial CAS numbers, but this is a feature of the software, not the CAS system itself.

Why It Matters:

Using unofficial placeholders can lead to errors, especially in regulated environments (e.g., REACH, FDA, or safety data sheets). Always use the correct CAS number or clearly indicate if the number is unknown.

I would suggest to allow a NULL in addition to a formal regex for CAS

Zu Required habe ich nichts gefunden. Wo kann man diese Ausnahme möglich machen?
