Unnecessary class NotificationDao.java?

I am currently digging a bit deeper into how the App handles notificatins and found the class NotificationDao.java. It seems this class is unnecessary as it has no real usage in the App. Below is a picture of the find usage function of AndroidStudio. Its only two imports are into TcaDb and the implementation TcaDb_Impl respectively.

In both classes NotificationDao is only used in the notificationDao() method. But this method is never called nor used elsewhere. I succesfully built and ran without the class. If nobody knows a reason why the class is necessary I would suggest removing it.
