mp3 files: Issue reading Musicbrainz tags with versions >= 0.24.4 #2359

I am still investigating but it seems like mpd is not loading in the Musicbrainz tags from mp3 files with mpd versions newer than 0.24.4. It works for me with versions 0.24.3 and prior versions. If anyone has some insight let me know. I will be trying some files tagged by others to see if they work. |

You are probably using a buggy libmpg123 version. |

That is interesting because when I revert v0.24.4/5 I haven't yet figured out what specific commit in v0.24.4 brings out this old mpg123 bug. I guess it doesn't matter if the issue is in mpg123 but I am curious which of the MPD commits trigger it. |

Great....thanks! I will work on getting a fixed mpg123 installed. If I need to do a rebuild before that the commit information gets me another workaround. |

MPD 0.24.6 will have another workaround. I'm not sure if there is already a fix for libmpg123, but another way might be to compile MPD from git (0.24.6 is not yet released). If you want 0.24.x, compile the branch v0.24.x. |

Version 0.24.6 resolves the issue with tags in mp3 files that started this discussion. Thanks for adding this workaround for bug in libmpg123. |

If you want to know which commit, you can find out with
git bisect, but I think I know it's b9488d0 which switched to ID3 parsing using libid3tag instead of libmpg123's limited internal ID3 parser. The libmpg123 bug affects only software which extracts raw ID3 headers, therefore the bug was not active previously.
