Looking at issues

they all focus on supporting the creation of visuals. Looking at those, it might be nice to align these all a bit to ensure they have same technical foundations and see that the new approach can be somewhat modular.

Furthermore, the R scripting plugin allows powers of ggplot2 for stuff that needs to look absolutely fantastic - so one question is the scope of your visualization systems and how far they can go.

Would it make sense to reimplement everything through d3.js? This would allow at least interactive and fit nicely to browser environments and also provide a powerful system to work with?
