Icon-based Textfield-Value setting

We require a method for the following use-case:
Behind input-fields symbols may be displayed. Once a symbol is clicked by the user, the textfields value is set to a pre-defined value. E.g.: Symbol is "hammer and sickle" and value should by ´communism'.
