Problem
Whenever I open Thorium and search for something, it asks me to solve a captcha. It's very annoying. Why does this happen? It doesn't happen with other browsers, but Thorium is my main browser, so I'd like to know how to solve this. :( Using: M138.0.7204.300 - 44th Release ---- thorium_AVX2_mini_installer.exe

hello I just checked, I disabled hardware acceleration in the Thorium options just in case, cleared the Thorium cache, and tried again. Unfortunately, the problem persists. This has been happening since the old Thorium build from February 2025, so I thought it was outdated and that was the problem, but it isn't. I tried other browsers, and none of them have the issue, so it's not my ISP It's a pretty annoying bug. I was looking at the solutions in the post you quoted, and I also tried what it said about the DNS settings, but that didn't work either. For me, this doesn't just happen with Cloudflare; it happens every time I search for anything. It's frustrating. I don't know exactly where or who to contact to get them to address the issue. As I see it, this problem affects several people and should be fixed as soon as possible because it completely ruins the experience.

I have nearly the same problem, and turning it graphics acceleration nor secure DNS on and off doesn't solve it unfortunately.

Could you test in under incognito? I rarely meet the captcha when not, but once I start incognito session, evey single google search or cloudfare requires me solving captchas. QAQ

I rely on Thorium greatly, and would really really hope for a fiz or at least some sort of workaround for google search alone Orz

For the search engine query simply put: https://www.startpage.com/sp/search?query=%s
It's weird looking and there aren't the AI summaries, but the dark mode actually looks pretty nice imo

I noticed the same issue. Fortunately, the captchas, while incredibly annoying are usually easily completed instead of ending up in a captcha loop. I don't use Thorium as main browser though. I typically have existing bookmarks from Chrome in it so doesn't typically trigger the captchas.

LMAO Startpage as my search engine just asked for captcha.
Hopefully the next time it asks for one is another 2 weeks or never again 🙈

@gz83 This is a moderate priority. It only happens to me on a fresh install, but after solving the captcha once, it never bugs me again.

I use Thorium in both normal and incognito, with internet from my phone's hotspot, home ethernet, or school Wi-Fi (different city and different provider, btw)

• During my normal sessions
  -> Mobile Hotspot: it happens once or twice per day with google search, pretty much flawless
  -> Home Ethernet: it happens once or twice every 10 minutes or so with google search, not like a BIG deal, but still quite frustrating
  -> School Wi-Fi: same as above for google search
• During my incognito sessions...
  -> Mobile Hotspot: happens once or twice every 10 minutes or so with google search
  -> Home Ethernet: 100% happening on every single google search
  -> School Wi-Fi: 100% happening on every single google search

I tested Chrome, it happened max maybe twice a day for google search and never with startpage, no matter the session type or network. However, it also lags and heats up my laptop soooo much, I gave up the experiment after a week...

Anyways, I have switched to startpage search for now, it happens maybe once or twice per week when on hotspot or ethernet, BUT 100% happening on every single startpage search when I'm on school Wi-Fi. The captcha page says that the network is flagged for some previous abusive patterns, but it says the same for our school's hospital Wi-Fi as well, like wth...

I miss google searching with less captchas QAQ
